About Travis Oliphant
I was born in Utah, received the B.S. and M.S. degrees from Brigham Young University in 1995 and 1996 respectively. I received my PhD from the Mayo Clinic in 2001. I started using Python in 1997 and started writing the tools that would become the beginnings of SciPy in 1998. Eric Jones, Pearu Peterson, and I created SciPy in 2001. I am also a contributor to NumPy. After teaching at BYU for 6 years and running the Biomedical Imaging Lab there, I left to work with Travis Vaught and Eric at Enthought. I have 6 wonderful children and a patient wife, Amy, who I adore.
