John Hunter

John Hunter, the creator of matplotlib, passed away recently from colon cancer. For those of you who aren’t familiar with his work, the video above is John recounting the history of Matplotlib’s development. Although I did not know John well, he took me under his wing for an afternoon at my first Scipy conference years ago. This generosity was, frankly, a bit shocking to me at the time but since then I have come to learn this is just part of his character. If you are interested in making a donation to John’s Memorial Fund, you may do so here.

This is a great, wise talk — much more than just a matplotlib talk. I’ve given a donation — do you know if there a certain goal to be raised to support John’s Family?

One more thing: do you know if the “hunter_scipy2012.ipynb” file is available somewhere?
